I love this cabinet! I read many of the reviews prior to purchasing and was reluctant to buy it initially because of a few of the critical ones. Particularly, the reviews that said it was unstable and they were afraid it would topple over. Anyway, the product was just what I was looking for and having purchased Bush products before I felt confident enough to go ahead and pull the trigger on this item. The box arrived a few days later and being a heavy item the box was pretty beat up which caused some worry but upon unboxing everything was so well packed and protected that the unit was in perfect condition. Assembly took me a couple of hours and the assembly instructions consisted of 100% pictures which were very easy to follow and let to a satisfying and attractive cabinet that looks a lot like real furniture. We all know these units are particle board with veneer covering.....but like I said it look great. As far as the claims of it being unstable that hasn’t been my experience. I have no concerns about it toppling over...in fact included in the hardware package is a bracket and clamp assembly that will let you secure it to the wall.....I decided not to use it as it’s very stable and steady without for me.....mine sits on a tight knapp carpet.....maybe if your carpet has a taller knapp it would tend to be less stable. I set my unit on some carpet glides which allows you to slide it around very easily without fear of breaking the cabinet during the moving process. There was some confusion on my part getting the hinges adjusted correctly so the door fits perfectly with an even gap on both side of it. There is an online video on how to do this but I found a sepereate sheet within the instruction booklet that explained this in better detail. Once I better understood how to adjust the hinges it was very easy and the door fits perfectly as it should. All in all I recommend this product very highly....I think it got a bit of an unfair rap in some of the reviews and I don’t normally leave reviews but I like it so much that I wanted to share my experiences with others who are considering this purchase. It’s a great value for the money.I was a little worried ordering furniture online (without touching it first). I received the cabinet on time and with free shipping (not Prime) which was surprising because of the weight of this item. It is heavy. I've read several reviews saying that this cabinet was hard to assemble; it was not. The instructions were clear, the parts were labeled, the screws and assembly hardware was all bagged individually and labeled, and the only two tools you will need are a phillips screwdriver and a hammer. The instructions include about 20 steps but they are small steps. I put it together by myself and it took exactly 3 hours. I did not hurry and with help it could be done in 2 hours. The only part that gave me any trouble was putting the door onto the cabinet; the hinges were a bit tricky. The Cabinet itself is made from pressed wood with veneer covering. Every surface, even those in the back and bottom are covered with veneer. No exposed surface is left uncovered. The reason I gave the cabinet a 4 instead of a 5 was the back. Like so many pieces of furniture today, the back is cardboard with a crease down the middle. I would have rather paid a little more and gotten a 1/4 peice of plywood for a back since the it ties the whole piece together. On the plus side you can mount the door either on the right or left side and make it open either right or left. Note that the paint is made to be "distressed" a little, so it is NOT a solid black but close. I will probable buy another one these for the other side of the entertainment center.Overall I'm happy with this cabinet. Assembly took about 1.5hrs taking my time (and a few mistakes), so I had to disassemble it when I was nearly done. The directions consist of good diagrams and parts lists but no text other than things such as "need assistant". There is one diagram that I misinterpreted and that caused a problem for me.I've purchased Sauder furniture in the past and this is definitely a step up from that type although the assembly is very similar on the hardware used. This unit is constructed more of a plywood type of wood and not fiber board as is the Sauder. One cabinet weighs over 100 lbs.I'm not a furniture geek so I'm not sure how to describe the outside finish. It is a cherry type wood color under neath with a semi gloss black paint finish. There are streaks and dots in the paint so you can see the cherry finish. Helps hide the scratches when they happen I guess. Goes well with my Spanish Walnut paneling. All parts were in the package. No damage other than a very small cracks in a couple of the boards but these were reinforced when assembled and can not be seen now. These cracks were shallow and in the finish not the wood. The biggest challenge was mounting the cabinet door. I'm still doing some adjusting to get everything lined up. I bought two of these and will get good use out of them. They look very good in my room. Rated at 50lbs per shelf and there are four in a cabinet.I would recommend this to a friend.Bob W.
